Fragrant Breezes

fragrant breezes
a python slithers from
hibernation
Barbara
seeking good company
in the summer sun
Vasile
mates together
pick up the pieces
after flash floods
Barbara
foreign workers start
new variants of the road
Vasile
a moonlit signpost
puts us on
the right direction
Barbara
in these stubble fields
a scarecrow on watch
Vasile
*
colder now,
time passes in a
tapestry of colour
Barbara
a childhood memory
of my grandmother's scarf
Vasile
her secret hip flaskā€¦
the snow at
Mount Kosciuszko
Barbara
ice-laced grasses melt
on the hero's tomb
Vasile
from the plate
a packet of Tim Tams
swirls into twirls
Barbara
hungry dingoes prowl
around the drained pond
Vasile
east winds shake
gold dust from acacias
along the track
Barbara
behind his plough
raucous crows pick worms
Vasile
e-harmony overload...
eeny, meeny
miny, moe
Barbara
my inbox is full again
of love letters
Vasile
Downunder,
cloud peaks smudge
a linoleum moon
Barbara
all of a sudden
a storm in a teacup
Vasile
*
in shaded dust
barefoot gypsy girls dance
for the rains
Vasile
roll on another
people's revolution!
Barbara
dry leaves settle
on the tank
in Central Square
Vasile
each blade of paspalum
heavy with dew
Barbara
grasshoppers hop
from blood droplets
on the swathe
Vasile
where oast houses dot
the Derwent Valley
Barbara
as the moon rises
the skiers go home
one by one
Vasile
puzzled by these broken
spoor designs in snow
Barbara
earthquake!
I postpone my travels
around the world
Vasile
a quiet nap
beneath the weeping willows
Barbara
in the host's nest
a cuckoo chick pretends
to play
Vasile
"As You Like It"
under a hazy moon
Barbara
*
clear as midday
tender dreams of a first kiss
at midnight
Vasile
now the crooner winks
before departing
Barbara
the tail of a buffalo
swings to and fro
in the mud bath
Vasile
we switch the lights off
for Earth Hour
Barbara
magnolia blooms
their best show
at vernal equinox
Vasile
praise for the returning frogs
to our Botanic Gardens
Barbara
